What to Know About Cruising with Kids

is carnival cruise good

Shopping for swimsuits probably means the weather is heating up or you're headed out for a fun vacation. Photo books are a fantastic way to keep our special memories in a tangible, beautiful format instead of just storing pictures on ... It may be possible to work remotely while at sea, but there are some important things to keep in mind. Center Stage is spread out between three decks, so you’d think there would be a lot of space to sit and watch a show.

Plenty of Activities for Kids

Carnival also promotes zero-down and zero-percent financing through Uplift, which can save credit card interest if you are paying for your cruise over time. Carnival makes it super easy to search their site for deals, often with a red alert at the top of the page and by clicking on "Cruise Deals" under the main "Plan" tab in the header. The secret sauce with Carnival is always to be logged in with your Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club account, which you can sign up for free before you even book your first cruise.

Barista coffee

Room service, as on all Carnival ships, incurs a small additional charge. Carnival Celebration also boasts a much-expanded Bonsai Teppanyaki venue just next to Bonsai Sushi. However, we found ourselves missing the generous size of Carnival’s bathrooms of the past. Standard stateroom bathrooms aboard Carnival Celebration are noticeably smaller, and seemed cramped and difficult to even turn around in and could present challenges for larger passengers. That modern styling continues too in stateroom bathrooms, which are crisp and well-designed and finally shed the horrifying pinks and pea-soup-green plastic molding found on past ships. Gone, too, are the cylindrical showers with the clingy curtains, replaced instead by a generously sized shower with an articulated door that slides out of the way when opened.

Cobranded Cards

On Carnival Panorama, for instance, most inside cabins measure 185 square feet. That's the same size as the interior area of some oceanview and most balcony cabins on the ship (not including the extra square footage from the balcony). For casino lovers, the deals are abundant, and come from several sources. Taxes and port fees are not included, and upgrade fees will apply if you want anything other than an interior room.

I only wish the menu was easier to understand for making quicker, better informed decisions with fewer acronyms. Since it was so expensive for one drink ($17 after tip) and I didn’t have a drink package, I didn’t make another trip back to the bar. Hopefully on a future Carnival cruise, I can sample some of the other delicious sounding cocktails. Staterooms aboard Carnival Celebration are more modern in appearance than the line’s ships of the past, with a palette of light blues and sea foam greens mixed with crisp white linens and furnishings.

Carnival Jubilee Review

While you can use the same-day laundry service, a standard laundry bag costs A$25. The pressing service is next day and 12 items comes in at A$30. There are also self-service launderettes located on stateroom decks with two or three washers and dryers and an iron and ironing board. Vending machines dispense small boxes of detergent and water softener at A$1.50 per box. Wi-Fi is available throughout the ship and the connection, though not fast on sea days, is more than reliable. There are social, value and premium packages available, with two-day packages from A$16 per day and seven-day packages from A$60.

The good news if that you don’t have to purchase wi-fi access to use the app. In that case, messaging apps like WhatsApp might be a better option. We didn’t test any messaging apps on our cruise, but they are specifically mentioned by Carnival as being supported on its wi-fi service. Our experience, however, is that you can actually stream at least some of those services that are supposedly no supported. If you had to use the connection every day to surf, it would be slow by modern standards. It definitely took some time to load images onto posts for Cruzely.com when we live-blogged the cruise.

With this type of pricing, there isn’t a set cost for something like a specialty restaurant or drink package. Instead, the price will vary based on the specific cruise you take. So you could sail one cruise and see one price, but a completely different price the next time you sail. These islands had largely been the same, offering some restaurants and shops, but the big draw being white-sand beaches with beautiful water.

Carnival Jubilee is a family ship, and as such, kids are found nearly everywhere, though kids clubs are located on decks 4 and 17. The ship also is vibrant, and finding a spot for a little peace and quiet is difficult, though the adults-only Serenity outdoor deck as well as the Summer Landing, on Deck 8, are lesser-trafficked areas. Service also was spotty on our holiday cruise, with some greats (our room steward and main dining room waiters) and some real misses.

Package is less expensive than what you’ll usually find on Royal Caribbean. Carnival charges around $60 per day (if bought ahead of the cruise), while Royal Caribbean uses dynamic pricing where the price depends on your specific cruise. However, in general you can expect it to be more than what Carnival charges. That said, Carnival is moving in the direction of Royal Caribbean. For instance, Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration and Jubilee have the first-ever roller coaster at sea, and the cruise line is the only one to have an IMAX on some of its ships. Royal Caribbean definitely seems more innovative with the things to do on the ship.

The new Loft 19 enclave found on both Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration offers full bar service, a private pool surrounded by sun loungers and cabanas available for rent. Located at the top of each ship on Deck 17, the complexes have separate living and sleeping areas and the most expansive balconies in the Carnival fleet — all unusual-for-Carnival features. Measuring more than 600 square feet, the balconies also offer a lounging area with a large sunbed and a private outdoor hot tub and shower. Still, some of that has begun to change with the debut of Carnival's new Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration.

These spots offer snorkeling, beach activities, kayaking, and other beach activities. One of the biggest benefits to the growth of the cruise industry? As cruise lines grow their fleet, they are able to add more cruises — including from smaller ports.
